What is a process server and why do I need one?+
A process server is a legal courier authorized to deliver legal documents (like a summons, complaint, or subpoena) to a defendant or witness. In Washington, service must be performed by a non-party who is at least 18. Professional process servers ensure that service is executed legally, in compliance with Washington Court Rules (CR 4), and provide a legally binding Affidavit of Service.
How much does it cost to serve documents in Washington?+
Our standard (Routine) service in our primary service areas starts at $170, which includes up to 4 attempts. We also offer Rush Service ($220) and Same-Day Service ($290). Documents are printed at no charge up to 25 pages (then $0.20 per page).
What is subpoena domestication in Washington State?+
If you have an out-of-state lawsuit (foreign jurisdiction) and need to serve a subpoena on an individual or corporation located in Washington State, you must "domesticate" the subpoena. Washington has adopted the UIDDA (Uniform Interstate Depositions and Discovery Act), which requires filing the out-of-state subpoena with a Washington Superior Court clerk to obtain a local, enforceable Washington subpoena. We charge a flat package fee of $500 for our subpoena domestication assistance.
What are Judge's Working Copies (Working Papers)?+
Working copies are copies of motions, declarations, and briefs delivered directly to the judge or commissioner hearing a specific case, so they can review the material prior to the hearing. In Snohomish County Superior Court, working copies must be submitted in person according to strict timelines. We provide in-person working copy submission starting at $130.
What happens if the recipient is avoiding service?+
We are experienced in dealing with individuals who actively avoid process servers. We conduct stakeouts ($150/hr) and investigate active addresses. If personal service remains impossible despite diligent attempts, we can draft a Declaration of Diligence which your attorney can use to file a motion for Service by Publication or Service by Mail.
